Introduction to contexts of learning: Caroline

The purpose of this assignment is to explore different contexts of learning, through reflection and personal experiences. There are many contexts of learning however, I have decided to research play, learning in the outdoor environment, Montessori and Summerhill.  These four contexts of learning vary and have many differences. I believe these four contexts of learning are the most beneficial as they have a means of different approaches to teach children but also to allow children to learn for their own sake.
Take for example play; play is a motivational factor that contributes to a child's learning as they jump in and out of reality making learning exciting. Learning in the outdoor environment develops creativity and imagination through trial and error. Learning in the outdoor environment is considered a controversial aspect of learning as some say learning outside of the classroom is beneficial whereas others disagree and say it is unprofessional and a waste of time.
Montessori and Summerhill are schools which were initiated with a different approach to learning. The Montessori approach to learning is child-centred as the classroom and curriculum are designed around their specific needs. Montessori has a strong emphasis on self-determination. Summerhill is a school that's sole intention is ‘freedom’ and allows children to do as they please, whether attending lessons or not.
